Question 2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i Premium, Comments, Opinions, and Concerns

I am thinking about picking up a 2011 X5 xDrive35i Premium. The car is used and has almost 76k miles on it. I am just getting into the X series and have only been an owner of 3 series coupes so my knowledge on their maintenance and repairs is fairly limited. I am looking to use this car for towing purposes mostly and maybe some daily driving.

I just wanted to hear some opinions on the car itself and if there is anything to be worried about considering the mileage, since it will be towing on a regular basis.

If you have any insight into how this car holds up and any work that needs to be planned for it, I would much appreciate your input.

I an no expert mechanic, but have some advice:

    - make sure you receive a history if repairs and services done on the car if possible.
-76 k means the car is due for these common issues :
1- coolant expansion reservoir cracks. Needs replacing.
    - water pump goes bad, overheating the engine. Keep an eye on it.
    - transfer case actuator motor gear stops working leads to trifecta, abs, awd,dsc and brake alarms ON. Easy fix to do it yourself. (BMW asked for $3k, i did it for free)
-valve cover gasket and oil filter gasket can go bad leading to leak. (I am planning in a this next week)
    - tires? If they are rft, you wont get a spare. Otherwise plan to have a spare.
    - the tensioner belt can go bad.... inspect that very closely.

That is all came to my head right now.

    Good luck
    And keep in touch

+1 to what the above member said. The most important thing you can do is to get a full, proper PPI (pre-purchase inspection) report by an independent BMW shop. This will give you all the details as to what condition the car is in. Best of luck!

I just bought this with similar options and mileage. Great info, thanks.
