    E83 Rim/Tire Options

    Hey all!

One of my wheels is bent. One of the factory OEM 17" rims on the 2007. Since I need new tires as well, I opted for 19" M3 rims. A buddy of mine was selling his for a steep discount. Little did I know the tires, however, are 235/35/19 and in NYC, I am asking for trouble. Although they are fine and dandy, I didn't consider this prior to buying. I like the rims though.

What's the largest tire I can throw on there, clearance wise? I need more rubber as potholes here are colossal. 255/50/19?

I don't know directly but this should help you, it's one of the better calculators I've found...

....honestly, I would stick with the OE 17 inch wheels on the X3 .... you are right in thinking that the larger diameter wheel with the lower profile tire will have a harsher ride and have less protection when encountering road potholes .....

... if you had OE 19 inch wheels for the X3 the tire size would be 255/40R19 on the rear

.... and, it is likely that the wheel offset and hub bore on those M3 wheels is not compatible with the X3 so that they are not interchangeable on the different vehicles ... so sell the M3 wheels and find a replacement OE 17 inch

... forty-three years of driving before I get behind the wheel of a BMW .... and I am thinking, "why did it take me so long?"
... and then after another 4 years I can't believe that I have two of them !!

If you need more info about whee fitment and spacing/offset, take a look at the link below. It's a great, helpful guide with a lot of good info - quite comprehensive, but easy to understand.

Wow! thank you so much guys. I truly appreciate your help. These tools are fantastic. Thanks Pelican and my1st. I am a customer of Pelican so it's nice to hear from you guys =) I will really, really think about giving them back to him. He did offer me a few days to drive around and consider. The 17" OE is too small but maybe I can find 18" that are more compatible. I should've mentioned that I have been unhappy with these vanilla wheels from the get-go. The bent rim is my justification for splurging on a more aggressive set of wheels.
