Hello,
My 2007 328i convertible hard top will not open. When I was closing the top, everything seemed to close properly, but the hard top motor located in the truck would not stop operating. It ran for 10 minutes until I could get at the battery terminal to disengage the power. After this, the top will not operate. The windows role down and the top unlocks and nothing happens after that.
I have changed the 2 salmon relays connected to the motor and this did not help.
Any ideas
Thanks
More than likely a hall or micro switch sensor either failed (unlikely) or was bumped out of alignment. Only solution is to test the sensors. If you have a code reader that might help identify the sensor that is not in the correct condition (on/off) or position.
Best guess I have...

Hi,Thanks for your post.
I changed the relays and it did not solve the problem. I took it in to be diagnosed by BMW. They opened and closed the top manually and said the mechanics were fine.
They determined it was the motor/hydraulic pump. They quoted me $3955 to replace.
I decided to take the motor off of the hydraulic unit and have it looked at. While I was doing this I noticed a lose connection in the motor. So I soldered the connection as I had nothing to lose. I put the motor back in and the top worked perfectly.
I will attach pictures soon to show exactly what the problem was. I hope this will help someone in the future.
I almost spent $4000 and was able to fix the problem at no expense and 20 minutes of work.
Would like to see the pictures when you get them posted.
For future reference with my convertible should something happen.
Look! Before our very eyes, the future is becoming the past.
