Hey I'm new to the forums and not super experienced with E36's, but would like to pick one up. Do you think the one below is worth it?

I'm certainly going to try and get it for much cheaper, but what price would you guys recommend? Also, when I go to look at it, what are some things to look out for? Thanks
That car would go for less than 3500 euros in the Netherlands. It has a little rust but I bet there's more if you really look for it and the only positive thing is that it's relatively low kilometers. Offer 5000 bucks if you want but don't go over.
It's a little overpriced in my opinion. For the same amount of money you could find an M3 that needs little work. I found my M3 a year ago with 109k miles for $7,500US.
You can pick one up around where I'm at for half that off a lot... I would definitely say it's overpriced... keep looking they are amazing cars and I'm sure you can find one for a lot better price

+1 as others have pointed out, price seems a bit high for the car.

I wouldn't go over 4500CAD.

so should I get the details and offer him 4000-4500? What would be your course of action? First time buying an e36.
First you have to decide for yourself if you have the time, patience and dedication to fix any issue that it has and/or will have considering its age and wear and tear. If you find yourself wanting to do less or taking less of a risk look for a cleaner but more expensive E36. Otherwise it's more of a gamble.

Graduated this year and have a decent sum of money laying around, and all the time in the world. I'm quite mechanically handy and my dad is a mechanic, so I'm good on that front. I'm ready to take it on, it doesnt seem to be in awful shape after looking at pics of the engine bay. Would 4500 be considered a lowball? It's worth that much after some more research.
I think you'd be doing good at that price just make sure you check the cooling sustem... overheats get pricey... take it from someone who just did an overhaul... guess I can't complain I only paid $500 usd mine but a complete cooling overhaul, gasket change, o2s, and fuel and spark overhaul I'm up to around $2500 still not a bad price but kind of frustrating

STart at 4000, but I wouldn't go over 4500. You need to find the faults in the car and believe me there will be faults.
You should do an engine compression test. Also use an inspection camera to look in the side rails for rust (at the jack points on both sides).

To put into perspective, two years ago I purchased a 1999 328is with 161k miles and the M-sport or what ever it was called package for $3000. The car was 100% stock, rust free, and the engine was very good. It definitely needed some attention in the interior and overall the trim everywhere wasn't great. About $150 worth of parts and everything was functional as it should be.
E36s are definitely going up in value and the one you have pictured is in a bit better shape than the one I purchased, so I would say that $4-4.5k is reasonable.
