    rearview mirror issue

    Greeting all !
Looking for feedback/assistance with a rearview mirror issue for a 2005 325i sedan.
Not sure what has caused this bright, oval spot in the mirror to occur.

The image in the mirror is blurry except in the oval area.

any assistance regarding this is greatly appreciated.

    many thanks.

The mirror is delaminating. I had this same thing happen on a Volvo. Replace the mirror.

Possibility of the self dimming feature of the mirror causing this.
Have you noticed any leakage from mirror?

yup mirror went bad. they used a fluid that reacts with voltage to dim the mirror when needed. yours went bad, as did mine and most of them. Seems like the ones with SOS have the most issues and are the most expensive.

do not plug in a mirror without SOS feature on your car unless you read some of the retrofit stories or you will burn out the new cheaper mirror.......

I had a similar problem with the M-3, and www.radar-mirror.com/ replaced the glass for about 100 bucks.

This. It's pins 4,5,6,7 you need to de-pin or cut.
    You can then use an e90, e 46, e60, e65, e53, or e83 mirror easily.
the ones with stubby clown nose are Gentex mirrors and the are faster amd darker than the magnetti marelli ones e46s were saddled with.
I think mine was e65? Homelink mirrors are all over for $30-35 shipped.
I had to grind the tabs to get it to properly fit the sos base. 10 seconds with a grinder, easy peasy.
I was going to retro an x3 sos button, but since SOS doesn't work anyway, who cares if it throws a code in DIS anymore.
by end of year you won't even get the call going out to say you are being ignored bc you don't pay for assist.
If I were to give my Touring a first name, I'd probably name it "Alan".
