2002 noob needs help on valuation - 74 tii

Looking at a '74 tii. The registry is no longer online, so I cant even find out any build info on the car to verify its originality. Looks like it has a couple small "mods" such as e30 sport seats, and a different front valence with bumper removal.

The car has "16k" miles, but who knows with a analog odometer and not cafax/autocheck history reports on cars this old. The car is painted bright red, which Im assuming is a repaint of the stock color.

I have seen examples on ebay bid up to the low-mid $30k range, which im assuming is absurd pricing and some around the $10k mark. I have no idea what differentiates the huge discrepancy of price in these cars. I have read that the 72-73 tii is the most desirable with the 74 tii being the next in line. Can anyone help me value the car?

    thanks for all the help!

    is this legitimate? https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuati...74-bmw-2002tii

and how can I find out the original color of this car (bmw has no build info on these cars from 1974 as I was told by my contact at bmw)?

well, the car sold at auction today in Virginia for $10,300... In pretty ratty shape for a "recent restoration" - lots of clear coat peeling and rust coming through the door skin and the entire underbody. Swapped motor and tranny, etc....

It looked promising and I was hoping to snag it as a cool project, but not at that price - needs way too much to be nice, and then it still isn't original by any means (repainted color, swapped drivetrain, etc), so the value wont be there for a collector.

This is the car from a previous owner's cached for sale ad:

    vin: 2780464

if anyone needs to reference this. I also have a video of the car during my inspection showing all the underbody and door rust... I hope some dealer doesn't screw over a retail buyer...

A solid, dry, unrestored 2002tii roundie can fetch an easy $15-$20k.

it was a rusted out car that would not pass VA inspection due to the rust in the floorboard announced as structural. I passed on it due to the expense to fix it properly. The dealer that bought it will likely spray some black undercoating on it an flip it for a very decent profit. I don't like to screw people like that.

While we're on the subject I would like to get some input on this 1974 2002 I'm getting. It was an Arizona car so rust doesn't seem to be a major issue and it is said to run. I have a cabinet shop and i do some trading from time to time. I'm taking this car as part of a deal on some cabinets.
My backround is in newer BMWs... I've had a couple e30s, a couple e39s and I currently have an e60 M5. I've never really had any intrest in the 2002s but I'm getting there.
    My questions are:
What are some things to look for on it,
Where is a good source for things like window and door rubber,
    Is this model desirable,
Whats value like, current and somewhat restored?
    Thanks for all the help,
    Sorry to jack the thread.

Sent you a PM - I'm almost that guy. I put a (refundable) deposit down last Thursday, but am yet to view the car in person.

As a follow up - the car failed VA inspection yesterday.

I had placed a refundable deposit on the car to hold it, which was refunded immediately.
The dealer had bought the car at auction, unaware of the condition of the frame rails. They will not sell the car as is, and have opted to return it to auction.

Admittedly I was still tempted, as it was a beautiful car. Hopefully it doesn't end up as scrap.

It was sold at auction as-is with the failed VA inspection and frame damage announcement.

would love to see the link to the advertisement.

m3j0n, any luck on figuring out values on 02's ? I'm trying to find a 72-73 2002 to restore and prices are all over the place.
Rusted out cars are 15k and decent cars are like 5-8k wtf ? It seems people just throw a price out their and hope for the best.
