My 2009 E90 automatic won't crank. Insert the key, press the brake, push the button - nothing. The battery is fairly new and all of the lights come on (interior, exterior), the fan blows, the radio plays, so it doesn't seem to be a power issue. The only warning light is a red Service light (image of a car with the word Service over it, not the Service Engine Soon light) which doesn't seem like it should be the issue.
Any ideas! Its in a parking lot and I'm loathe to call for a tow!

More likely to be just the Starter Solenoid if you do not hear it clicking when you press the button.
Replace the started and it likely comes with solenoid (I'm not certain on this model, but it's typical).
I recommend further testing before taking any rash advice.
I don't know about any rash advise having been given, but I would confirm that the battery is good first. Radio and lights coming on is not always indicative of the battery being good and don't assume that the battery is good because it is kinda new.
Assuming that the power going to the starter is where it should be, odds are that it's your starter. It could just be the solenoid, but a solenoid is like $70 and a starter with solenoid is like $150. Considering what you have to go through to change the solenoid, you might as well do the whole thing. It sure would suck to have to pay to have that done twice.
