Okay so the x3 has a worsening transmission judder when it changes gear.
I figured it was slack in the transmission lime and eventually identified a worn universal joint with lots of play in it .. and rusted out sloppy failed bearings in the front drive shaft (from transfer case )..
So low rumble has definitely reduced (uj bearings rumble like wheel bearings when worn ) .. but the judder is still there.
The car has lots of miles on it. 295000 km.
I'm thinking the rear drive shaft / prop shaft is probably in a similar condition and needs changing .. to view it the exhaust and a cover needs removing.
So.
Does anyone have experience of the above .. ?
I fear that I may change the rest and STILL have the judder.
It's when the auto box increases revs before a gear change. When the change happens there's a judder.
It's worse on deceleration.
Thanks

Anyone ?
Surely someone has had jerky downshifting on an x3 ?
Since this is a standard shift, and since this is not a DIY operation, I would strongly advice bringing her into your favorite indy shop as soon as possible. Most anything having to do with running gear requires a lift. This sounds like it may not be an expensive fix per se, but the longer you wait the larger and more costly the solution may be.

Maybe I missed it but he never said it was a manual...
check your transfer case or unplug the VTG motor and see if the problem is still present
