    Noob need advise on driveshaft

    Hello I'm a noob. I have a 1995 325i 5 speed. The rear u joints are bad. I can't find them.

I don't think they are serviceable.

Go to www.realoem.com for your part number.

They can be replaced but it is a pain and few shops will do it. It's not worth their time. If you are in NH, try member Butters Stoch.

Rear U-joint is at the nose of the differential and you can kind of see it from under the car. Front U-joint is a couple feet forward and covered by the exhaust/heat shielding.

What makes you say they are bad? Driveshaft thumping around corners is a good clue.

No, the driveshaft can be serviced at a shop. The U-joints are staked in place instead of held with circlips so it's not DIY. I paid ~140 last summer for both U-joints and balancing. I supplied a new Lemforder CSB during the install.

What E36 has front and rear u joints? I have seen the shafts with a rear u joint and shafts with a rear cv joint. In the front I have seen only fixed flanges with a rubber giubo.

That what I was afraid of. Thanks guys. I replaced giubo and center bearing. But the back shaft is roaring.thanks again Guy's. It just a play toy for my 19 year old daughter.
