Hi guys I have a 1991 BMW 735il.
I've never used my driver's seat (1,2,3 Memory) seat buttons before. After cleaning the interior the other day and pressing them while cleaning, my seat has been acting as if it's possessed!
While I'm driving, the seat will adjust itself into one of the memory positions. I'll have to adjust my seat again while I'm driving so I can even reach the pedals when this happens, it could be dangerous.
But after I put the seat back to normal with the seat controls, in a few minutes it will just auto-correct itself back into a memory position that I don't want!
Is there anyway for me to just put the seat where I like it, and then disconnect the seat motor or something (cut power to it) so that the A.I. controls stop re-positioning my seat? Thanks so much for the help.
Why not just pull the switch and clean it? Could have gotten junk in there or something making an unwanted connection. Since you said it happened after cleaning the interior and messing with them. Personally I would just pull the switch, clean the contacts and look it over.

The SMM switch is not that easy to open up, a lot of electronics compared to the other simple switches.
As you cleaned the interior you might have touched one of the plugs of the seat and mirror memory module under the driver seat, or some wires touching sometimes. Check all the connections under the driver seat on the seat and mirror memory module.
All the plugs have different colours to make sure that you do not mix up. The problem however is that most these plugs are NLA. But there is a way. The only difference between the plug besides the colour is the direction of the triangle hole in the middle of the plug. Use a small drill and make a round hole of 6 - 8mm out of the triangle hole and one plug type fits then to all the connectors, you just have to mark them what goes where.
Copy from here the last link smm.pdf http://www.e38.org/e32/BMW_pdfs/ that is a tech training manual for the seat and mirror memory module.
It might also be that the smm module is defective. Also read this thread http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1247067
Also check the switch, maybe when cleaning you pushed one of the buttons and it got stuck. Pics of opened switches BMW, all sorts of, includes also the memory seat switch http://dd.jpn.org/BMW_HP/20080610/index.shtml
As a temporary fix disconnect power when the seat is in correct position

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
for a fix that doesn't really fix anything but masks the symptoms, how about setting all of the memory buttons to the same position? That way, if it happens, nothing happens.
