    E39 1997 528i door sensor error

Hello guys! (firstly, I would like to sorry for my poor language knowledge, but I'll try to explain my problem)

Today I noticed, that my dashboard indicator lights works not like they must to work.

For example, when I open driver's door, it shows that all doors are open. When I open any except driver's door, it shows that all three doors except driver's are open.

    Trunk indicator light works perfect.

Also, green light does not appear when I turn my fog lights on, only the orange rear one works fine.

What should I do to solve the problem?

I haven't experienced this problem and don't have a good answer, but ... if it was happening to me, probably the first thing I would do is:

    1. With the car off and the trunk open, wait 16 minutes for the car modules to "go to sleep."
    2. Then, disconnect the car battery (negative terminal cable).
    3. Put the car key in the ignition switch and turn to position 2 for a minute or so....

Hopefully this would remove any residual charge from the modules.
Turn the key back to the off position, reattach the negative cable to the battery, and see if the issue persists.

Another thing I would try is a small amount of PTFE spray lubricant (plastic friendly) on the door switches inside the door jambs. As shown in this pic....

If these don't help, you probably have a failing module somewhere. Hopefully someone with experience with this issue will post something useful.

Is it possible that indicator lights do not work because the dashboard is faulty?

Outside chance that it's a bad ignition switch. Turn on the passenger visor light. If this affects what you are observing, the switch is defective.

Also, measure your battery voltage when the engine is off. It should be 12.5+.

BTW, your English is MUCH better than my Lithuanian!

Is that what we call the General Module or GMIII ?

I suppose it is a suspect, but it might not be the only one. Modules inside the doors might also be involved.

If you have a BMW fault code scanner (or software app like INPA, or PASoft bmw scanner 1.4.0), try to see if you can identify any BMW-specific hardware fault codes.
