Unable to connect to EML using INPA with engine running? 91 850i

As the title says... I am unable to connect to the EML using INPA when the engine is running but I can connect when the engine is not running. If I connect first and then start the engine it stops responding as soon as the engine starts.

However, I can connect to both DME just fine with the engine running or not!

Before I dig deeper I was wondering if this is normal behavior for this car (1991 850i)?

Well, what version of INPA are you using?
I am using hacked 6.4 that connects fine to EML on all 8s 1991 through 1994.

5.0 with a fix for non-EWS. But I'm also using a home made version. I can't imagine this is normal but thought i'd check first.

So you can connect to the EML with the motor running?

Hmm, have not tried with the motor running. Usually just with ignition on.
Some EMLs I cannot connect to, usually the failing ones!
