Wife got me a Wi-Fi obd2, IOS, for fathers day. Plugged it to my 99 540i and it connected right away. Gauges work and it has a bunch other parameters that I am sure are very useful. . The app, Dashcommand, I got from the apple store for $9.99. Now here's the thing, Autometer has an app for free from the apple store and it turns out is the same dashboard design as the $9.99 app, minus a few gauge customization details. The main menu and dashboards for both apps look exactly the same with the exception that the autometer app has their gauges as options for custom gauge dashboard. The Wi-Fi obd2 was $12.00 from amazon.
So far I have been able to have a dedicated Water temperature gauge that reads both F and C and yes I know "I just use the K-temp on the display..." good for you. What I really like is that it lets me read and clear codes, not airbags, for now.
I predict that in the not so distant future there will be a flood of Wi-Fi ready gauges that will do away with a lot of the pesky installation process. I know there are already a few out there I just think that it will probably end up being a huge part of aftermarket gauge selection. I can see gauges with displays having the same technology and quality as that of a smartphone and almost endless customization possibilities.
So if you are considering getting one, go ahead they are pretty cool and actually work!

Haha! Yeah! Reminds me of good 'ole Rodney Dangerfied, he's driving rdown the road, going home, he sees a naked guy running up the road, Rodney asks, Hey buddy, how come? And the guy yells back, Because you came home early!
