2003 525i Key Stuck in Ignitiion

I urgently need help. All of the repair shops near me are closed, and I can't lock the car with the key stuck in the ignition. The P symbol is lighting up on the dash, and the car won't let me start when it is not in park, so I think the computer knows it is in park. It is saying "KEY IN IGNITION LOCK" when I open the door

I am able to open the shifter assembly, and there doesn't seem to be anything stuck in it or out of place, and I can't remove my ashtray that I can see.

My options are to risk having my car unlocked all night while I"m staying at a hotel or sleep in my car. Please help!

Confused. So key is ACTUALLY stuck in the ignition? Or is saying that but no key is really there?

You're saying the key is in the ignition, and the car is in park. Have you tried starting the car, then move the steering wheel back and forth a bit while at the same time turning the key to the off position and attempting to pull the key out ? Result ?

If you have another key with you, close all the doors. Go back into the car via one of the rear doors, and press the door lock button on the centre console, locking the doors. Exit vehicle. Wonder if the key in ignition would override the locking process there. Hmmm.
