I'm not sure what the proper term is but the foam underneath the carpet was soaked and falling apart. Is there any third party source for the E24? If not, what materials should I track down and where should I look for it? I've finally fixed this '88 after 5 years and I can't wait to put it all together, the foam is the biggest obstacle right now.
Are you looking for something that's concours-correct, or something that is better than original? If the latter, there are lots of choices, but I like FatMat:

I used 3/16" neoprene over 1/2 foam. If you look at yours you will see that is pretty much factory

Look into Frost King heating duct insulation from Lowe's or Home Depot, about $1/square foot for a 15" X 15' roll. This is aluminum foil backed adhesive foam about 1/8" thick and is designed to insulate heating and air conditioning ducts as are common in attics, etc. Dampens noise about as well as Dynomat and its competitors, for a fraction the price and weight. Conforms well to shapes such as car floorpans and roofs. Waterproof. Seal edges with aluminum foil tape (much like duct tape) and it's waterproof. Thin enough to fit between door cards and the door sheet metal, so soundproofs doors, too, and sunroofs, underside of hoods, etc.
I have used frost king beneath rear seats, doors, and trunk. About $100 to do all that. Made a noticeable difference.
Frost King and Fat Mat look like great alternatives. I'm going to take the interior out completely first and remove all the adhesive and rust spots
You may want to research further on what products to use to mitigate rattles vs. road noise. I think the Frost King stuff is more suited to minimize the former. But I'm far from expert.
Cheers,
Ray
