Agreed. Sure, it is not original, but I would consider myself as a "good owner" and would certainly use a front end collision like that as an opportunity to swap to the wide nose (which it looks like it has in the photo above), since that it what i prefer. If you care about originality, replacing the grill and hood with the year correct narrow nose pieces is an easy swap. They are all OE parts, they just may not be year correct. We have a fella here with a very rare 540i/6 individual that went to the narrow nose due to preference.
As stated, the price is great for that car, so if the minor issues noted are a turn away for you, then so be it, but someone will be very happy with that car should it be as good as it looks to be.

The pix are interesting, but the ones that are missing are the ones that show what it looked like before he started taking pieces off of it.

...and out of curiosity, what are the last seven of the VIN?
I wouldn't pass on it for having a different front end. I'd look for other cues of the quality of the repair--did he use OE/OEM or aftermarket parts? Do all the panels align perfectly, or is there misalignment indicating bigger damage. Frame underneath? Think it's a steal at $9250 if it's not a salvage.
Wide Grille looks nice, I'd do it too.
For 9k you don't have much to lose.
My '93 M5 has over 240,000 on it and I'd drive it anywhere. As stated above maintenance is the key! I currently own an E39 M5 and have in the past owned an E36 M3. While both are great cars, if I had to pick one of the three it'd be the E34. IMO the E36 M3 is nowhere near the car the E34 M5 is. I don't think you can go wrong at less than $10k. Just like the E36 you'll most likely have to address the suspension and cooling system. Those 20+ year old rubber bits are usually the reason most folks part with these cars. Once that's done you can do the little things at your leisure. Check out Butler's resto thread to get an idea what you could be in for. He's done an excellent job tracking his progress on his beautifully imperfect '91.

Did you make him an offer, or letting him hang for a bit?
i found the craigslist ad for it last week sometime. The price he told us the guy would take is already quite a bit off of the asking, so i cant imagine hed be getting it any cheaper than the 9250 he last spoke of.

Price out what ever it costs to get the proper early grills and subtract that from your current negotiated price -- then make the damn deal! Unless the DIY work is a turn off, this will be a great car for an enthusiast.
Update us.
What ever happened with this car? I know that it was sold.
