Saw this steering wheel on a z3, I wanted it for my z3. Does anyone know which steering wheel it is? Would it just be plug and play or would mods have to be made to fit / make the buttons work?
Someone is selling one on a Z3 sale list on Facebook. They say it fits the E46 E39 E38 E53 and is asking $310
It looks like he has them on Ebay

E46 wheel. May be easier or harder to retrofit depending on what year Z3 you have. Those wheels did come on some later year euro spec Z3's.
Hi Graham,
Looks like from his post he's got a 98.
BTW, what controls were you able to use off that wheel on the Euro Z3s and are you staying out of the heat??

A variety of multi function steering wheel posts have come up over the years. Early model single stage air bag models are easier. Most note that if you have a 2 stage airbag, even after fitting the "slip ring/clock spring" with the most wires, it is short of one wire to get everything working. The work around is using the metalwork of the steering wheel/bearings/column for the earth or horn and not a wire.
It comes down to your personal set of values as to weather you are happy with the work around or not.
Do a search and you'll find the posts.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
I had seen many posts and many attempts, but never seen anyone who would solve the problem of making all buttons to work.
