    Engine failsafe prog light and now my car just stalls?

    (sorry if this is in the wrong section on the forums but I think it's right?)

    Just gonna start off by saying I'm a complete noob about cars. I just drive it and when there's a problem, I take it to the shop cuz idk anything about cars honestly. I made a tldr at the end but for the extra details and such please read the full thing. My car-oblivious self appreciates any help.

    Alright so just some random background info in case it's helpful:
    - 2002 BMW X5 at slightly under 170k miles
    - Rough shaking when I would turn the car on and reverse; shaking stopped when the car is in drive
    - Oil changed at protech (will come up later in excessively long story); tried getting oil changed 6 months ago there and they didn't even know where my oil tank was
    - Car previously owned by brother; neither of us had seen the "STOP!ENGINE OILPRESS" light until I saw it 6/6 (will come up later in excessively long story)

    So I got my oil changed like 6 months ago or whatever or however often it's supposed to get changed and I got it changed with protech. Well my next change was supposed to be 6/6 or 170.0k miles. This might be purely coincidental but on 6/6, a light came on the dashboard (along with the beep) that said "STOP!ENGINE OILPRESS" light came on. So I quickly pulled over, turned the car off and googled what was wrong when I got home. Well I continued to delay the oil change just cuz I kept forgetting to ask for the card for protech from my mum. The following Tuesday (6/13) the light came on again and that's when I called my mum and told her I needed to get an oil change asap. Friday (6/16) I was running errands and decided to just get the oil changed finally since the light on twice in that short of a timespan couldn't be good. So I got my oil changed finally. As I was driving home tho, that's when everything turned to poo.

    I figured something was wrong right away because when I would accelerate, the car wouldn't accelerate even tho I "stepped" (not that harsh) on the gas. After a few seconds tho, my car would kind of jolt and randomly accelerate even if I was applying the same amount of pressure as before (if that makes sense). I was at a stoplight and I had my car in drive with my foot on the peddle and when the light turned green, I tried to go, but everything in my car stalled. I couldn't accelerate. I couldn't hit the brakes to shift gears. I thought for a second that maybe I put my car in park for some reason but it was in drive. I had to shut my car off and turn it back on. I figured it was nothing like maybe it was similar to the Trans Prog Fail light and how it locks everything out. So I continue driving literally live like 5 mins away from protech. I got to a 4 way intersection and I stopped my car cuz of the stop signs and it turned off again. I couldn't accelerate; it stalled on me. I had to turn the car off and back on. So at this point I'm freaking out as I hope anyone would. And I should've gone back to protech but I didn't. So I got home and it was like 11:30 am and I had to leave again at 5 and I figured maybe the car would be fine when I had to leave later cuz it would have time to chill like with the trans Prog light.

    So it's 5 now and I had to leave for practice and I tried backing out of my driveway, but as the car was in reverse, the car stalled again and I couldn't hit the brakes so I had to shift the car into park as it was moving (idek how this worked). And I figured I should've stayed home and just not driven my car but I get yelled at when I skip practice and I tried asking for another ride but no one picked up. Sooooo I started driving. Barely got out of my neighborhood when the car died. Again. I was gonna turn around but I was like "I think I can make it" cuz the practice place is like 5 mins away also. I drove up the street like 300 feet and a light came on the dashboard (with a beep I think) that said "ENGINE FAILSAFE PROG" I pulled over on the side of the road. Turned my car off. Turned it back on, and somehow made it into a parking lot for a dry cleaner. I tried to leave and go home, and I could turn the car on just fine. It sounded normal like nothing was wrong, but when I put the car in reverse to back up, the car would stall. The car would still be running but you could tell that the engine was turning off.

    Blah blah blah we had to get the car towed and some guy from protech came and my mum explained to him that these problems with the car started right after my oil change and the dude was like "it's not protechs fault. Your car's broken" like sweet dude thanks! And I noticed as the car was in the parking lot of the dry cleaner waiting to get towed, that it was leaking under the driver's door. Like my car has had previous leakage underneath it, like the normal spot for cars to leak (like middle front), but it was no joke leaking directly under the driver's door.

    My cars currently in the shop right now getting fixed and I really hope it isn't broken like the douche from protech said but does anyone know wtf happened and why these things happened to my car? Is it safe to assume it's protechs fault or was my car already messed?


    Tldr;

    - Car kept stalling literally right after I left protech (stalled 3 times on a 5 minute drive home) & uneven acceleration
    - ENGINE FAILSAFE PROG light came on later that Friday (6/16) and then the car stopped running
    - Pulled into a parking lot and while waiting for the tow truck, noticed the car was leaking underneath the DRIVER's door (not underneath in the middle)
    - Protech Tow guy showed up (biggest douche on the planet); was no help in telling us what happened to the car or what could be wrong except for "your car's broken" (exact words like cool dude!)
    - Car currently in the shop
    - Am scared about car which is why I made this post

    You really should have searched out a reputable BMW specialist shop,
    that way, when problems arise, you have a go to shop for repairs.
    I hope for your sake, that the shop it's in is familiar with BMWs.
    It seems you have several problems with your vehicle.( transmission, engine)
    Hopefully the shop is equipped with the diagnostic equipment necessary,
    to communicate with all the computer modules contained in your vehicle.
    If you can, report back with the codes found during the diagnostic scan.
