Tell us what is wrong with your current engine? Typically the block is good and the head is what fails.

it drinks coolant like crazy but doesn't leak anywhere, there are small metal bits in the coolant also it doesn't over heat when it drives only when i'm idling. could it be something fixable?

So the head is bad, cracked and probably warped. I don't know about the metal in your coolant, typically metal should be to heavy to come out, maybe someone added something to the coolant to try and seal something internal?
Anything is fixable. do you do your own work on the car? if you don't then it will be very expensive to have a shop do the work, better to punt the car and get something else.

gonna do it all myself. just wanting to find a long block or something to swap in and drive it.
