    What to know - 2013 X5 35d

Just picked up a used 2013 X5 35d with 39k miles. I did some brief research before making the purchase but looking to learn more from experienced owners. What are some of the dos and donts, things to look for, and best practices for maintaining this vehicle. I own several other diesel motors and am a fan of the diesel platform. I have had the vehicle for a few days and already love it. Never believed the hype of German engineering until now. Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

Sell it and get a gas burner. BMW diesel engines are the biggest piles of crap ever. Do you like seeing your check engine light come on? Hope you have a good warranty.

Has the above been done by enough owners for info about what it all entails? Can it be researched in past threads....by typing a simple search word or phrase? And if yes...what would the phrase or searchword be?

Just asking for e70 noobs or potential owners...to be pointed in a direction to do some digging without having to ask a question that may have been asked many times before.

I don't believe that you will find that info on bimmerforums. The Advanced Diesel subforum and this forum are poorly attended. The information DOES exist on bimmerfest and e90post in their diesel subforums.

However, BMW has recently extended the warranty on the DEF tank, which has been the major cause of most of the SES lights: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...DES-09-11-335d
Although the engine and transmission are basically bullet-proof, the emissions system (being essentially a prototype) has not, and has been quite troublesome. Nevertheless, most M57-powered BMWs (335d, X5d E70) are quite happy, and continue to be happy - don't take two people's negative reports dissuade you.

Utmost thanks for where to find the info.

I'm on BimFest everyday...so no problem with searching/reading there. It's been decades since I've spent time on 3 series forums...but again, thanks for pointing to (and reminding us) that the other BMW diesel models (like the e90) share the same "Advanced Diesel" issues/solutions.

I'll also check the Xoutpost e70 forums for info as well. Again, thanks.

Unfortunately they are crap, they are way more complicated than the gas engine, yea scr tanks, carbon build up the list goes in and on. Any mpg benefit will be quickly erased by repair bills
