Hello,
I'm having an issue with my X3, when heavy raining it is geatting flooded in the cargo area. It seems like water is getting in from cargo pillars, both corners are getting flooded but mostly the passenger side, that area like a bucket gets full of water. (see pictures). It is worse when car has been parked under rain and then it gets up hill, you can hear a lot of water moving and falling there. My biggest concern is that some of it is getting into the battery area.
I have checked front drains (engine area) but they are completely clear, so it has to be the rear drains. I'm not getting water into any other area, just there. I haven't found any topics or information on where they are and how to clean them. Any ideas? or references?
Thanks!

any one?
Yes hello, the rear sunroof drains are clogged with debris such as leaves, and dirt. I had the same problem plus I'm a bmw tech so Ive seen this. You can try a short cut try spraying some brake clean in the holes of the entrance of the drain which is located in the rear of the sunroof and maybe also a straitened out coat hanger. But I personally like to clean out all the dirt. I removed the plastic panels in the tailgate and just lowered the rear section of the headliner and they are very easy to access and clean like that. What happens is the water has no where to go so it just pools up right before the drain and runs down the headliner into those compartments.
Yea sunroof drains
I have the same exact issue. We have unclogged the sunroof drain. Found 2 acorns in them. Once removed the water is still coming in. We removed nearly a gallon of water between the bottom of the battery and what I believe maybe the computer for the tires?? It’s the component that is under the cargo unit pictured aboved. I can not find the exit drain to see if that needs to be unclogged. Can you please tell me where to locate it? Would I still have this considerable amount of water coming in after unclogging the sunroof above? TIA.
The rear exit drains were clogged. Cut them, blew them out and made something for easy access. Wish I could post a picture, but can’t seem to be able to from my phone here. The drain exit certainly seems to be a design flaw for the year model.
I unclogged the rear right drain. Was happy I fixed the problem, poured some test water inside and half the water that runs down isn’t even hitting coming through the drain cup area, but on the other side on to the headliner, looked hard and no obstructions, how is this even possible?
