So i might have fucked up yet again. Removing dowels from the block with some pliers...the pliers slipped and gouged the block right where one of the cut rings is supposed to go. It catches with a fingernail...not sure if it's anything I can fix or not. Kinda sick to my stomach about it. Didn't get a picture of it yesterday I'll get one home tomorrow. Thinking about carrying the block to the machine shop and just having them deck and reassemble the bottom end.

Man you got this thing torn this far apart you'd be crazy not to refresh the bottom end too. I thought that was the plan all along. I'd at least get it decked, honed, and tanked and then throw new bearings and rings in.
Stop being a sissy and pull it apart and refresh it. Got 200k on it.
Run it.

Bottom end rebuild will keep the car off the road for probably another extra 1-2 months. Plus $2k +. I'd run it.

I can definitely see another 4-6 weeks, but cost should be nothing near that. I did my fully built forged bottom end for less than $2k.
Rings: $150
Main bearings: $80
Rod bearings: $40
Machine work: $200
Gaskets/seals/etc: $100-150
Hardware: $100-200
If he hadn't pulled the motor out of the car and completely stripped it down, and it didn't have 200k on it , maybe it would make sense to just stuff it back in the car.

Double check me here, this is everything I think I need if I rebuild the bottom end (Including Part Numbers):
Went with VAC bearings. Buying new chains as well. Im assuming the bottom end gasket set has everything in it.
Bottom End Gasket Set - 11119064460
Rod Bearings - VAC VAC-HPRBS-M50
Main Bearings - VAC VAC-HPMBS-M50
Timing Chains - VAC BMW-TC-M52
Piston Rings - 11251403810
Rod Bolts - ARP 201-6201
I've never plastigaged anything before, no idea how to gap rings or install them. Reuse pistons and rods? Ugh...this is exhausting.

Hey man I've got mint rod bolts I'll let go cheap. They are ARP!
I also have a ring file you can use. And plastigsuge.
Also I can show you how to gap rings and install them.

Dropped the head off today, supposed to be done by next Thursday. He was of the opinion that he didn't want to deck the block for the scratch, Non-committal on the rebuild of the bottom end, which is where im at with it.

So when I bought this car, it was advertised as having a Stewart water pump:
New Behr Radiator
New Stewart Water pump with Metal Impeller
New 80-Degree Thermostat
New Thermostat Housing and Seal
When I pulled the water pump the other day I thought to myself "this doesn't look like a Stewart"
So turns out its a Graf, a $40 dollar water pump.
Bimmerworld happend to have a sale on Stewart pump on sale the other day so I picked one up
Not gonna lie, kinda pissed about that. The guy I bought it from only drove it twice so he didnt know and Im not real sure if the person who had the car before him knew or not as I dont know if a shop put it in for him or not. Pretty shady stuff.

Probably told the purchaser before you it had a metal impeller pump and that guy thought that meant Stewart.

Haven't gotten a lot done in the last week or so. I've been busy with life and getting ready for 24 hours of Chump Car at VIR. Got the radiator back with the new oil cooler that fits yesterday.

Head was supposed to be done yesterday, just spoke with the shop owner and they have yet to even look at it. When I dropped it off, the shop owner was out of town so I kinda had a bad feeling dealing with one of the techs and the way he wasn't really writing anything down besides my name. Anyways, they are throwing it in the tank today and pressure/vac testing it on Monday. I'll be out of town middle of next week so I wont have the head back til the 16th or 17th. Im thinking I wont have this car done before the fall HPDE at Barbers....gotta find a car to rent.

Cylinder head services in fairfield?
Couldn't get them on the phone or even a call back. Called a few local shops and asked who they used for head rebuilds and ended up taking it to Engine Rebuilders in trussville.
