Rebuild: Better, Faster, Poorer - Twin Screw Edition

So as a few of you know, I have an e36 M3 that I love to beat on. Its had a twin screw supercharger bolted to it for about 20k, of which I've owned it for about 10k of that. It doesn't live an easy life, its my track car. Not a daily but when it comes out to play, it gets put though the ringer. So a few weeks before my last track weekend at barbers, I noticed my coolant hose was holding pressure after 24 hours. When it was running, the hose was rock hard. Searching the forums and the rest of the interwebs, this seems to indicate a head gasket on the way out. I had no oil and coolant mixing, just the pressure. Ran at barbers with no issues. Fast forward 3 months and after the last autox (FTD for me) I get home and I notice that the coolant reservoir appears to be empty. I start to remove the cap and *WOOOSH* all the coolant comes rushing back in. So I pulled the spark plugs and #6 didnt look great. So I made the decision it was time to pull the head. But instead of just pulling the head, I am going to pull the whole motor. I've got some other things I need to get done while its out, so this is just the easiest route for me currently.

At Road Atlanta (That hill is like driving off a damn mountain):

Cleared 200k on my way back from the last track weekend at Barbers:

    Thats better:

In for results! I wonder if a bigger a/w intercooler would benefit your setup for track use.

I had a ts kit for a minute and it had 180+ peak intake temps.

Yea, been thinking about a bigger reservoir as well as Water/Meth injection. But looking at the heat exchanger inside of the manifold, I don't know how well the water/meth would do. I'll post some pictures of it later.

Ehh those laminova intercooler cores are really efficient. Way more efficient than that front core.

Tanks probably has data on them.

If i was tracking a Ts id max out that aw. You could easily fit a 3.5x20x8 ic in there with ac. How does your current compare?

Twin screw is off, that little focker is heavy (Should of taken the pulley off first but the batteries for the impact were dead)

    Heat Exchanger

I gotta say, having the front off the car makes all this crap a ton easier. So much room for activities

Number 4 looks pretty normal, 1-5 look like this:

Number 6 don't look so good:

Got the rest of the wiring harness labeled and disconnected from the motor. Went nuts with painters tape and magic marker. Almost free and clear. I've got to drop the exhaust, disconnect one remaining ac line, disconnect the drive shaft and gear shifter. After that should be good to go. Going to pick up the hoist and remove the hood on friday night. I've got training all next week and then the 4th of July. Probably wont get a whole lot done until after the 5th or so. My Zionsville fatboy with oil cooler should hopefully come in within the next week or so.

When I drop an engine out, I unbolt the compressor and hang it on the inner fender, everything stays charged up.

Coming out the bottom, you don't have to take as much apart

You guys ever seen 8qts of oil on a concrete floor?

Buddy came over to change the oil on his car before he let me take his m3 (eurosport twin screw) to the autox the next day. Handed him my drain pan, we forgot to pull the plug on the pan before we started draining. Two bags of oil dry and 30 mins later it was cleaned up.

I had a tech pump 26 qts of oil into a car once that only took 4.5 qts. Oil was coming out of everything!

Leave the TS off, box it up, ship it to me, and then you can buy a turbo.

Fatboy came in with oil cooler...so fat

Unfortunately there is a slight problem...

No tabs to mount the cooler combined with the extra large cooler. Already talked to zionsville and they sent me a return label to get the mistake fixed.

Not much progress to speak of, pulled the midpipe and xbrace off. Thought about pulling the slave and disconnecting the driveshaft but I got a case of the lazy and decided to watch TV instead.

Midpipe still looks like a work of art
