I want to program a new key to my X5. Got the AK90+. Just need to find the EWS. I did find the RDC, but nothing that looks like the EWS under the steering column area?
A 2009 X5 is an e70...which is the 2nd generation X5...but the 1st one that is a new gen BMW.
EWS, has now morphed into CAS (car access system) in the next iteration (EWS 4/CAS). Hopefully this may help you find what you're looking for.
The CAS module is on the K-CAN bus:
List of modules:
- JBE (Junction box Electronics)
- FRM(Football Module)
- CAS (Car Access System)
- CON (I drive controller)
- CID (Central Information Display)
- EHC (Electronic Height Control)
- KOMBI (Instruments Cluster)
- PDC (Park Distance Control)
- FZD (Roof Control Panel)
- MASK (Radio Head Unit)
- IHKA (Air Conditioning Control Unit)

I am not familiar with the CAS. Can a new remote be programmed to it? I ordered the new software Rheingold ISTA/D 4.05.31 software + Ediabas 7.3.0 with iSetup (Hardware version).Sold by: Rheingold USA LLC.
Not sure what all it will let me do.
Did you get the key from a BMW dealer? That is the only way that I know of that a key can be matched to a CAS unit. They are VIN specific and must come from BMW N/A. If so, all you do is stick it in the key slot and hold it for about 5 seconds until it grabs the key and turns it on.
However, if you have comfort access, there's a few more steps involved. And FYI, on an E70, only 2 keys can be activated to operate comfort access.
