    Anybody Doing/Done an Electric E36 M3?

There's an electric conversion thread from 2009-10 in this forum but not much since then.

On the first day of Tesla Model 3 reservations last year, I completed mine within the first 10 minutes of the start. Now that I’ve had some time to think about it, I’d like to seriously explore electrifying the M3. No doubt the Model 3 will be a great car, but I’m not really a 4-door sedan guy. There are going to be a zillion of these running around, and a unique electric car would be worthy if it’s doable.

Mine has 140,000 miles on it, remains in good shape, is fun to drive and would be terrific as a performance electric vehicle. I’ve test-driven the P85D and P90D Model S a few times, so a performance electric is familiar to me. Of course that much power isn’t necessary, but I would want any conversion to have great torque and range. EV West in San Diego County made an E36 M3 race car with 850 lb-ft of torque, but that’s a little much.

Could anyone do a conversion like this?

If you like your M3, I would think twice about moving to a Tesla whether it's the Model S or Model 3. I sold my '07 335i and got a Model S. The test drive of the Model S blew me away, but now that I've had it for a while I'm starting to miss the 335i handling and road feel. The Model S feels huge. Maybe the Model 3 will have a smaller feel to it, although the batteries in the Model 3 will weigh the same as the Model S. I've read that the next gen 3-series will have a full electric in the lineup. I'm not sure what magic BMW will use to make such a heavy car feel like the real 3-series.
