final drive and top speed of 2011 335is with DCT also what mods are you running?

I have a 335is with DCT, and the final drive seems very different than my previos BMW, an 08 135i. In high gear, at 60-70mph my 135 was at around 1200-1500 rpm (maybe even lower), and with the chip and mods it would do well over 160mph.

My 335is at 60mph runs at 2000rpm, and 2500 at 70-80mph, a huge difference. To me this translates into quicker acceleration but limited top speed compared to my 135, but my 335is engine is really buzzing at freeway speeds..

My 08 135i was a six speed manual, and first was taller than 1st on my 335, but it has 7 speeds and is also much quicker from a stop or low speeds in 1st or 2nd.

I've inquired and my car has a 2.51-1 rear end ratio (exclusive to this car only). This ratio is far from the other ratios I've read other cars having, so my final drive from my transmission must be different than the manual or automatic and the 135. The other ratios do not seem compatible with my DCT unless I'm doing something like drag racing or autocross.

That said, does anyone know the top speed of my car? I know there's an electronic limit, but that can be disabled with a tune or chip, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the 335is with DCT is capable of with the limiter disabled.

Im also interested in hearing what others have done to their 335is to modify it.

I plan on intake, already installed a nice exhaust, catless downpipes, HMS tune and dyno tuning.

Hi Mike - since you're working on your E90, I'm attaching a link to our helpful DIY tech articles. I'm also attaching a link to our parts catalog for your E90. I've heard great things about aFe intakes and believe that they'll be offering a rebate on them this summer. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks very much for the links.

I have to wait a bit before I begin my mods and tuning of my new car.

I will continue researching during this time, so when the time comes I'll know exactly what I want to do.

I owned and modded my 08 135i, which ran the same engine (N54) with DCI, exhaust, Vishnu tune, Ohlins coilovers, Apex wheels with MPSS's, and I pretty much want to get my 335is to the same level.

I currently have an 08' 135i and always consider modding it, but then other things come up that funds are used for - never ending cycle.

We're happy to help out when the time comes.

Thanks mang! Yeah, you're preaching to the choir, I have this flaw in which I can't leave anything alone! Pocketbook doesn't always agree with what I want to do. I am SUPER GOOD at losing money! lol

On my 135i I went a little too "race", ruined the nice ride, had clunking camber plates, and never used the car as I'd built it for, so my 335is I want to go in a slightly different direction, something that rocks but also works as a DD.

Catless DP's, DCI, coilovers (when I can afford them), a tune (not sure which one yet-still researching), wheels and tires for track use, suspension bushings, all the basics. I'm really liking the DCT, different, but cool, and not a slushbox!
