Hey guys, Im a new Bmw owner. i have a 2002 bmw 330ci that was given to me buy a friend; the head gasket was burnt so i had to replace it. after going through that whole process and setting the engine timing over i tried to start the engine and it turned over for about 5 seconds before starting. the engine idled beautifully and responded well when slowly pressing on the gas pedal while in the park position. if the engine was at idle rpm and i instantly floor the gas pedal the engine would stall and shutdown. whenever i try to drive the car i have to accelerate slowly, i cannot floor it as if i wanted to launch or the engine would just die. also the engine seems to lack a lot of power. every time i go to start the car it gives a hard start and while driving it would randomly shutdown. i can drive for some days without it failing and then the engine just randomly dies. when i scanned it, it brought up both exhaust and intake cam codes. those are the only codes. the hard start and random shutdowns are a pain. so i really need to get these problems solved. the car idles perfectly so i dont think that the engine timing is off but it has both intake and exhaust cam codes. im not sure if a bad vanos would bring up those codes but i have read that the vanos would be a cause of loss of power in lower rpm. I would really appreciate any feedback and help. thanks in advance and sorry for the choppy english.
Did you use the cam timing tools?
