New (to me) Z4 and a Question

    I just bought a 2003 Z4.

I noticed it did not have the Factory tool kit. Looking around, it appears the kit has four parts: reversible screwdriver, open end wrench, tow hook and emergency tool for convertible top.

The wrench and screwdriver can be stolen from my tool box but I need to source the other two.

    Questions:

1-What is the size of the wrench?
2-I see tow hooks on Amazon. Is this correct for my car? https://www.amazon.com/Partsam-Fashi...ype=automotive
3-Where do I get the emergency tool for the convertible top? Can I make one? how?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the new ride.

The Wrench is double sided and has 10mm and 13mm

I'm honestly uncertain about the tow hook.

The emergency tool for the convertible top is just a 4mm Allen Wrench

    I will post pictures momentarily.

There's not a great spot in the trunk for it, so I just threw it in the basement.

    4jacks:

Thanks. So I presume I can use a 4 mm long allen socket and a ratchet/extension?

I don't know what is correct, but I do have that in my kit. I supplemented my kit with some motorcycle wrenches, just in case. I too am new to Z4's as I have had my 03 for 2 months.

I've never actually had to manual latch the top with the allen wrentch, but I don't think you need a ratchet or extension. Just a 4mm allen wrentch will reach. It goes in the panel above that you take off in the center where the roof meets the windshield. I can't image it takes that much effort to turn.

One video I watched says that the motor that operates the latches is NOT the same as the one in the trunk that operates the up and down motion and chronically fails. So for 90% of the failed power tops on the Z4 you can still use the button to latch and unlatch the top, you just have to manually move the top down and up.

Technically, yes. But, you're looking at ~30 easy turns. You're better off with something more like a crank.
