I believe that the side-mirror switch (i.e., the switch on the driver's side door handle/armrest that controls the side mirrors) on my 1989 325iC has gone bad. I think it's the switch and not the motors because both mirrors are failing in the same way--I can adjust in/out, but not up/down.
How hard is it to replace the switch? Do I have to remove the door handle or panel, or can I remove the switch without removing any other parts?
Bonus points if anyone has a description/photos about how to do the job (I'm a novice when it comes to DIY).
Thanks in advance.
Very easy. Insert a small flat head and pry the switch up. Pull switch off wire harness and replace. Push switch back in.

Great, thank you!! Does it matter where I insert the flat head (e.g., top, bottom, left side, or right side)?
Not really. The handle is rubber, so it deforms easily without leaving marks. Do a bit on one side, then a bit on the opposite side if it's stubborn.
Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one?

I'm waiting for the part to arrive. I'll post an update when I'm done--I hope to be proud of my DIY accomplishment (as noted, this is advanced DIY for me). Thanks again.
Got the part. The replacement could not have been easier. Thanks for the advice.
So your bad switch diagnosis was correct? Great job on your DIY
Congrats! On to the next...

Yep, and just a little FYI. These switches are serviceable as long as the the plastic holds when you take them apart. Usually all that is needed is to clean the contacts.
