Hello all-
I have a 2011 335i with 111k+ that is my commute road warrior. Late last week, while parked it was tagged by my neighbor's F150 4x4's rear end when he backed out. Initial inspection is that I will need new hood, front left quarter, headlight assembly, front bumper and spoiler, and possible inner fender lining and some bits and pieces under the hood in that area, plus the paint, etc. In addition, it is now throwing the 4x4/dsc error. Im not too familiar with this error, but given it was a byproduct of the accident, it is not just routine wear. My concern, then is that there is possible damage to front wheel/suspension components.
Given the age of the car and miles, my concern is that they might just total it, as it seems a lot of damage. Has anyone had similar experience in terms of a later model higher mileage car with this level of damage? Appraiser is coming tomorrow, but I thought I'd throw it out there as it is weighing on my mind.
thanks in advance.
I'm guessing that they're going to total it given the miles and amount of damage - if suspension components are required that the cost will grow exponentially. Other members should chime in on this.

Sounds expensive, but you need a body shop estimate. Nothing much we can tell you.
Thx- The insurance appraisal is today and I am going to call my body guy for some advice as to whether just ship it to him or to have it sent to the BMW dealer first. I'll chime back.
My guess is it will not total, but until we see pics, hard to say. Pilgrim is right, let the appraiser look at it, but get an estimate from a qualified body shop. I say qualified because there are way too many out there that arent. According to NADA, its worth at least $10,000, you can probably spend about $7000 on it before they total it. Unless it did some structural damage, you probably wont hit that.
Update: Damage tally is now up to $8k and climbing. At fault insurance is declaring a total loss, given the amount needed and the salvage value. Calling the Total Loss adjuster back to start the 'discussion".....ugh
so, the insured's carrier (Commerce/Mapfre) is declaring a total loss. And since they are declaring a total loss, they are indicating that I will need to go through my insurance company if I want the insurance to handle all the title/loan/lien and salvage/disposal work, as they are not obligated since I am not their client. Had I known the chance of getting totaled, I would have just done that from the beginning, so essentially lost almost 2 weeks and almost back to the beginning.
