Hello all
I'm normally into my bikes, but was lucky enough to pick up a 1989 520i a while back. 24k genuine miles, and kept in a heated carpeted garage for those 28yrs. Low spec but great condition.
Currently in use daily. The kids love it.
It's slow and weak with the single cam engine so I'd love to make some tweaks to it but given the lovely condition I'm loathe to break it by messing it up.
Anyway, it's a great car, which gets more attention in the work car park than all the Porsches and Range Rovers combined...
What color is that? We on the other side of the pond never got that one. Looks clean! How's the interior?
All the old and low-mileage cars I've seen have everything rubber just falling apart - tires, weatherstripping, bushings, hoses... How's yours? And what's been done to it?
It sounds very nice.
Ideally a swap to M50 power would be your best bet. I can imagine that 2.0 is quite a wheezer in a 3400# car.
My understanding is that the MOT takes dim view of engine modifications and dimmer yet of engine swapping.
A shorter final drive would help off the line but at the expense of higher revs on the highway.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
