Former forum user now with Z4 and I am overwhelmed with the tech

I was an avid participant on the E34 and E38 boards a few years ago. When we sold our 2 1991 525's and then the 1999 740, I ceased to answer or ask questions. I concentrated on keeping my 2 1969 Datsun 2000 roadsters roadworthy. A few months ago, after my old brain had grown sufficiently tried of making decisions on which repairs to do, I sold the roadsters. I was not happy with the roadster withdrawal so when a local Suburu dealer took a Z4 in on a trade, I jumped on it. It is a silver 2013 28i with 18,000 miles that had been babied all its life. I love it, but am shocked at the level of technology and electronic gizmos on this car. My wife drives a 2013 Prius 4, but this is in a totally different world. No oil dipstick?!! Anyway, I wanted to reintroduce myself and warn everybody that I will probably be asking a lot of inane questions.

    Thanks,

    Dick Schneiders

Your Prius is just as complicated as the BMW, but since the Japanese made it you should have a pretty worry free ownership. My wife's Prius's just returned 50.13 mpg on a 317 mile trip, its a 2007 with 170k on it. Other than the great mpg and nothing ever goes wrong with it, it's not like you drive it and go wow great driving car, handles great, when you close the doors oh boy that feels secure or boy the hinges on the hatch are really beefy, because they are not at all, looks like Stanley made them. But impressive mpg and reliability.

Welcome! The new cars definitely do have quite a bit of tech in them... luckily you are in a Z4, sitting in a new 7 series is like stepping into the Matrix or something...

Congrats on the new ride. I bought my wife's 2009 Z4 30i sport in 2014 with a 40k miles and small front end accident. 3 years and 30k miles later I have only changed the oil a few times, brakes once and tires once (I removed half of the thread in 2 track days).
We are now moving to 2014 35i msport
