Hello All,
I am finishing up a project of bringing a 2015 320i Xdrive (3,999mi) back from the dead and am trying to get some lingering ghosts out of the powertrain. This car was in a pretty severe front-end crash with my sister-in-law at the wheel, and I bought the car from her insurance company for peanuts. After full frontal mechanical and cosmetic reconstruction, I have two problems left I am having trouble getting to the root cause of.
- I am getting a code that the engine is running lean in Bank 1. Appears after about 4-5 engine start cycles. After the acciedent, virtually all intake tubes and inter-cooler have been replaced and have been smoke tested for leaks. None are present.
- Engine does not have any power. If you step hard on the accelerator, a "Drivetrain Malfunction" it triggered and displayed on iDrive. Through ISTA, I have determined that the following error codes are present.
- 121533 Charging pressure - ambient pressure, comparison: charging pressure too low
- 120408 Charging pressure control: Switch off as consequence
- 120308 Charge-air pressure control, plausibility Pressure too low
It is pretty obvious that the second error is related to the turbo not generating any boost. The turbo assembly was not physically damaged in the crash, but likely experienced high g-forces. I am suspecting that the electronic wastegate actuator is not fuctioning properly, but cannot find a way to test it in ISTA, although you can test virtually anything else in this software. What is the procedure to test the wastegate? Could the lean codes be caused by the turbo not generating any boost? Sounds opposite to me? Thanks in advance.
Honestly you'll get more response on f30post, this forum isn't very active for F30s
