I drive a 2006 525i. I recently noticed upon taking off there is a thumping coming from under the console. I usually drive with my right arm on the console and feel it. It thumps about 3-4 times and stops. Does anyone know what this is and if I should be concerned?
Probably the CSB
Center support bearing or the drive shaft joints are tight which will wear out the center support unit
Guido
It's really GIUBO; for Giuseppe, which was the first name of the Italian who invented it. Giubo issues - unless it's actually torn apart are more likely vibration. Thumping is more likely to be the Center Support Beearing (CSB) which is about halfway down the driveshaft just before the universal joint. It has a big flexible rubber grommet that the driveshaft runs through. When it is torn or no longer doing it's job, the universal joint can bang against the undercarriage.
