    750iL 1989 heater issue

    Hi,

I am having a strange issue with the climate control.
The driver side center vent always blows hot air, and so does the driver side footwell vent, aswell as half the center dash upward facing vent.

Any ideas what may be causing this? Or what to look at first?

Also, forgot to add, the driver side wing mirror switch does not work.
There is power going to the wing mirrors and swicth, as when i reverse, the passenger side dips.

I did have have door card off, and there were two wires which looked like they lead up to a tweeter or something (wasnt connected to anything).
Unsure how to diagnose this fault.

My car is a RHD car (United Kingdom)

Ok, it probably needs a replacement. Will the following be ok to use:

The reliability of those aftermarket ones are not great. You can probably get a rebuild kit, I think they still make them. Or as I did, I simply removed some rubber seals on the inside that were torn. Other have done this too. Been working fine for years now and it was free.

Ok so finnally got around to looking at it. Its a bosch unit and its beyond repair. The outer case is crumbling as it looks like its been getting very hot.
So i will just get a new one or a good second hand one.

    Looking at realoem:
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=64_0146

It looks like I need the following (Parts 5 and 7)
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=64111388619
    and
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=64118390063

    64118390063 and 64111388619

so would the following be ok?: (Part numbers a diff, but maybe it woill still fit, as the part numbers change over time)
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E34-E3...QAAOSw4A5YrGna

Also, there is a connector near this heater valve. But the wire looks like its been cut/broken. Can someone tell me what this was used for and where it would connect back to?:

also buy item 13 Vibration damper 3 64111390940. And the valve cover.
The broken cable is probably the one from the aux heater valve. Same cable wires colours as shown here http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan/wate...tervalves.html
Parts as shown on your link to U.K. Ebay will fit, but a bit expensive for a used unit.

see the link in my above post, the aux water valve is mounted below the heater valves. Water flow: from engine to aux water pump, outlet aux water pump to inlet heater valves, 2 outlets heater valve into the heater core.
The aux water valve it not absolutely necessary, it is just a comfort item, as it delivers constantly abt 950 liters/h into the heater core, independent of the engine RPM. And it is necessary in case your car is equipped with parked heating system.

You also need a new plug to connect the new heater valves, part numbers here https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...or-3-pole-plug

    750iL 1989 heater issue

Don't wanna thread jack, but I have a similar problem with the footwell and defrost always blowing hot. I've rebuilt the heater valve but the heater core is still getting hot with everything switched off. Is that normal?

My temporary solution has been to clamp the heater hose

That is not normal, the heater valves should close and no hot coolant should enter the heater core. Without power the heater valves are open, so check the heater valves again.

Ok so replaced the heater valve in the engine bay, still the issue persists. Namley, hot air coming out of the driver side vents (U.K car) even though the climate control for both passenger and driver is set to cold

Did you verify voltage at the valves? Three wires, one is ground. The others are positive and control each valve. If there is an issue, I and I suspect there is, then you need to inspect wiring and probably move onto re-soldering the control module.
