I have magnaflow exhaust, and was thinking of cutting out the resonator and go to straight pipe with just the mufflers on 95 840.. Would like a better sound. Have seen other BMW's have it done. Anyone tried it yet?
Don't do it. Had an 840 here a couple of years ago with center resonator cut out - talk about obnoxious cabin drone.

Chase - Heroes to a generation
The resultant sound is more "loud motorboat" than "tuned BMW" - very obnoxious, plus the droning and popping...
I replaced mine a few years ago with MagnaFlow. This is what they look like

There isn't any drone at all.
Cheers!

Replaced mine with an x-pipe running to Magnaflow mufflers. I'm not sure what "droning" sounds like, but I don't notice much of a difference from before.
I found a set of used Resonators that I would like to put back on my car. I can't recall what it looks like or where it needed to be placed. Does anyone have picture of the placement of the resonators?
Thanks
Alex
