I have swapped a 01 non-M console for a 98 M console. Both are the exact same size except for the upper and lower panels that hold the gauges and switches. Why doesn't the console fit flush up against the dash? There is a noticeable gap especially on the passenger side. (see pics 1 and 2) Note the 3rd photo is on the drivers side. If I apply pressure by pushing upward on the black portion where the hockey sticks are attached to the console, most of the gap will disappear but when pressure is released, the console relaxes and slides back downward. I have pulled the infamous glove box with plans to rebuild the tabs attached to the glove box which helps hold the console in place. Is there anything else I can do to help the console fit flush against the dash? Opinions and thoughts are welcome. BTW I did NOT find anything concrete on this subject before posting this thread. However, if there is a link with this information, please advise. Thanks much.
pic16.jpgIt doesn't appear that the console is too low, but rather that it's not forward as far as it should be. The gap above the radio doesn't look right. There should be two screws above and behind the radio--did they fit properly?

There are two plastic 'locating pins' at the upper end of the console, that point towards the front of the car. I'll bet that one isn't located in it's hole properly.
