Try listing on mobile.de. I see a lot of US cars on there. Depending on your price you could be a very affordable alternative depending on shipping etc.

Me likey a lot! Does the BMW emblem on the intake manifold cover always face to the back of the car? Sorry new to 8series.

There's an 840 not too far from me that is the same color combo. I think it has 92k miles and they're asking a little over $11k.

Yes. It's like that because the E32 had a clamshell hood.

The oil fill port on pre-90\91 V12s was also on the passenger side of the motor, but that got changed to center (for everybody) presumably to accommodate the 31.

I have a 1993 850ci 6 speed and I would not sell it under 35k. But again the whole car has been redone with CSI suspension and body kit and it is in mint condition inside and out.

Alec, honestly mileage does not mean anything (as you know). Suspension rebuilds, exhaust rebuilds, dk motor rebuilds, top end rebuilds, all done CORRECTLY are things that I personally consider what the car is worth.

Had mine out yesterday and today (after fixing the blown coolant expansion tank). I've gotten more comments than ever. Lot's of younger kids. One almost crashed pointing out my car to his buddy. The girl at the drive thru asked "is that a phone in your car?". Then she was like "that's so cool!".

There's another great find in the for sale section. Some very desirable upgrades. M62, 6sp, 3.15 LSD, Hamann wheels (E31 specific). Haven't seen as much serious interest as the market might suggest given that the price of the upgrades alone validate the asking price. Any ideas?

Adding the customary buyer's premium of 10% makes the final price paid closer to $22k. Between this one and the recent BaT sales, I'd say that very soon it will be hard to find a reasonable car for less than $20k.

Maybe the last of the nice 6-speeds for less than $25k?

Major boost. Same will go for E31. Obviously not for the beat up one's, but the well kept, clean and enthusiast owned one's.
Right now the E31 Aplinas lead the way with 150-200k price range followed by CSi's and so on...

The embracing of our cars by BMW AG recently, more so than the annoucement of the New 8 has raised awarness and interest in our cars. Us 31.000 guys who have owned and protected the E31 will be handsomely rewarded in time; specially the core group whom have been mostly active within preserving and promoting this beautiful machine. At bimmerfest in a few days, we will see the changes. Just watch how people will flock to the E31 section. More so than ever before. Be ready for the most fun bimmerfest ever.

Testarrossa...... 100k-190K my friend and declining in value ! (in europe the hipe is over)..... always a risk (and they made 7.000+ or so and most are still on the road).
And these are mostly well maintaned mint cars with low milage.

same could easily happen with the 850 .......and they produced a lot more! (just a numbers game)

It all depends on the trim. Last year made, clean and low mileage 1992-512 TRs are the most valuable one's.
E31 Aplinas and CSi's are totally different animals. Do not mix those with regular 8s. A lot fewer numbers made and a lot more valuable/desireable. As soon as one US-CSi comes up for sale, it gets sold within days (within reasonable market value). Not talking about the 2 insanely high priced one's advertised now. Lol.

There are more Ferrari Testarossa's for sale on Autotrader or Mobile.de than all e31's combined. There is no doubt in my mind that a CSI or a base model six speed is more rare than a Testarossa. I'd also being willing to bet that the mileage profile of all e31's to Testarossa's for sub 100000 km cars would find the 8's to be much more rare as well.

Testarossa's were never a very practical car and most were used sparingly to try to avoid both depreciation and the exorbitant cost of repair. I haven't really looked into this, but it would seem there are likely far more low mileage mint Testarossas than the same in E31's.

I would have to agree. Most buyers of exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini and the like are purchased more for the investment than really to drive. An expensive toy. The e31 although expensive for the time wasn't in this category, maybe a couple of steps lower. I think most original e31 buyers drove their cars on a regular basis. I know the lady who I purchased my 840 from regularly drove the car from the day she bought it. All the way to 129k when she sold it to me.

yep.... e31 is not "yet" an exotic and ferrari's are in a different "collectors" category. But you never know... look what happend with the Z8 !

Looks nice in Glacier Blue - should make over $22k.
Couple of dings on right rear fender, just below the tail light.
Negative comments about the staging of these pictures are not warranted IMO - I personally think aviation-themed staging really suits the E31!

I spoke to the seller. Hangar just happens to be where he stores his cars. It was for sale on CL for $22k before listed on BaT with no real interest. Not sure it will get over $22k, but it will certainly determine the top of the market for an early automatic.

A car like this should not be advertised on CL.
CL is mainly good for sub $10K, average to below average cars for students and people looking for cheap daily drivers. Not a prestine low mileage rare Glacier Blue 850.

This just went for over 27k with 41k miles, don't see why the 22k miles example would sell for anything less than 30k.

Looks like this one went for just under 27k, am I correct? Also, two bids from the same bidder, at the same price as listed on the show room floor? Kind of fishy? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it go there, just don't know if this is for real yet. One thing for sure, there is much activity in the 8 series coral and it seems to be creeping up.

Nothing "fishy." The reason for the two bids by the same bidder is his 1st bid (at $24.8K) did not meet the seller's reserve. He obviously wanted the car so he had to bid $26.8K to get it. I've noticed the seller (carsschmitt.com) always lists lower opening bids that are never enough to buy the car. From what I gather they are a patient dealership with very nice cars and they don't mind holding out until they get their price.

I've contemplated putting my 36K-mile 6-speed 850i up for sale but know I could never replace it (the documentation, service records, and single ownership prior to me make it unique IMO). I sold my 1989 911 turbo in 2012 right before those cars literally tripled in value. I'd hate to sell my E31 now and realize next year I gave it away.
