Hi All,
I need to replace the windshield in my 1985 E24, US version. Are windshields for E24 unique to E24s or are there other models that share windshield dimensions?
I can't find windshields here, so before I go the route of having one shipped from the US I was hoping another model's windshield would make a fit.
thanks!
E24 only - sorry. And do not buy a cheap Chinese-made piece of glass.

Thanks!
So yep, I'm screwed, I can't find it at all here.
Does anyone have one for sale? Or where would you recommend I buy one that can handle shipping? I will pay through paypal upfront of course.
Thank you!
You should contact "Ovide" on mye28.com, as he has a source for OEM BMW glass in the Netherlands. He's an E28 expert, but he may be able to help you with the E24 glass.

ok, thank you!
I would call a US BMW dealer (in Miami) or a large windshield replacement company such as Safelite and see if they'll ship to Costa Rica.
Thanks! If in Miami I can have a friend pick it up actually and he can ship it to me, I wouldn't really need international shipping as I know this runs way up, but if can ship to my friends address in Miami will also work.
I'd be careful with any glass supplied by Safelite, and I alluded to that when I mentioned to not buy cheap Chinese glass.

Here I thought that Safelite sold a reputable product.
This is why I love this forum.
There's a thread not too long ago about E24 windshields, maybe last Summer, and apparently it's a big deal getting good glass now for our cars. Consolidation in the industry has limited the options available. I had a bad Safelite windshield in my ex-535i (too small around top corners, and it leaked) and my wife had one in her ex-Volvo 850T (optical wave in line-of-sight). If OEM is available, that's all I'd want, but that may not always be possible.

Thanks! I did go OEM at the end.
There are some decent non-OEM windshields. I've got a PGW (US-made) in my car, and it's fine.

I had the no-Chinese conversation with a windshield replacement company recently, and was told that now virtually ALL windshields are made in China.

Thumbs up for PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works), formerly PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) auto glass division. I'd be pretty sure PGW glass isn't made here, although PPG is still a pretty big deal here in my hometown.
Not all Chinese glass is made in China. Now there are Chinese-owned and -run plants right here. Fuyao Glass Industry recently refurbished GM plants near Dayton & Detroit, among other places, to supply American factories.

I'm told they produce the "OEM" and "ARG" brands. Clever how they snagged the "OEM" branding name, isn't it?
I found this article interesting, although I'm not sure how true it might be:

Hi all,
Does anyone have a windshield to sell? Or know of someone selling one? I have had no luck with any of the companies mentioned in this thread to sell me the glass, my credit cards won't be accepted, they won't even accept paypal since it is also international.
I would be paying via paypal upfront and I would need help with shipping, but to a Miami Address not to Costa Rica.
I really appreciate the help!!
