318is Door Speakers and Climate Control Question

Hello All,

Newbie to the e36 world. I just picked up a 1995 BMW 318is and working on some interior issues.

1) Looking at replacing the door panels and I noticed most of the panels posted show two (2) speakers. My e36 only has one (1) speaker hole. Can't find any with just one. Anyone know if I have a specific model that doesn't use two speakers.

2) Regarding the Climate Controls, can I change out my manual knob type to the electronic version??? Basically a straight swap???

1) most e36 actually have only 1 door speaker. It was the premium audio option that had 2. Your door card does have a preprinted hole for the second speaker tho, you have to push it out from the inside.

2) you will need the control module itself AND the behr climate control unit. I've been planning to do this for almost 4 years now and once got half way. It will take a full day to swap and some cash.

Thanks for the quick reply. Guess the original owner opted for standard sound...

I had a feeling the Climate Controller change wouldn't be as easy as a straight swap/plug n play...Same as going from a 7 button OBC to an 11 or 18 button version.

7 button to 18 button swap is pretty straight forward. It's been very well documented.

your car only has 1 speaker per door but you can still use door cards with 2 speakers.
