    Serp belt tensioner replacement question

    What's this pin for? The old assembly didn't have one...
    E39 M62 build date 2/98 non-vanos.

    That is a pin that hold the tension on the new tensioner. Once you pull it off the tensioner is fully opened. Every and any tensioner that I have replaced always comes with a pin, once installed and belt is back on you can pull
    the pin and toss it in the garbage.
