    06 Z4 3.0SI - $14,500 58k miles - good price?

Hi all. I'm looking into purchasing a Z4. I really want a manual but with traffic may hate that. I've found a nice 06 Z4 3.0SI with some extras: - Leather heated seats, Dual zone climate control, multi-function steering wheel, 18" TÜV wheel ($1,900)
    - Alpine Player (CD, USB, radio)
    - Blackbox front and rear camera installed by RPM electronics, records/detects motion 24/7
    - Recently changed with BRAND NEW roof motor and roof! ($1,500)
    - Custom Magnaflow exhaust (exotic sound) ($580)
    - Custom carbon fiber wrap done by Budget Brake & Muffler Auto Centers ($250)
    - custom radio by Ralph's Radio
    - BMW Shark edition front bumper by Triple MMM design

Does this seem like a reasonable price? He has listed $16k and willing to go down to 14.5... thanks in advance

$14,500 for a this molested piece of garbage? No thanks

First of all - RED FLAG - was the car in a front end accident that simply wasnt reported to insurance? WHY did they install this bumper? Were there permanent mods done that will make reverting to stock impossible?

Secondly, the kind of person to get their interior trim carbon fiber wrapped by a budget muffler shop is not the kind of previous owner I look for personally... and its not even real CF, it's the vinyl $20/yard crap.

And why did they need a "blackbox" installed?

None of that inspires confidence in me and that front bumper is ugly as $#!%. IMO, whoever the current owner of this car is is someone who does not really care about the car. $14,500 wouldn't be a bad price for a stock, well-kept and well-maintained example... I wouldn't pay more than $8000 for this one. There are plenty of well-maintained examples out there and there is a LOT more to a car than the miles - don't get stuck looking for only low mileage cars when there are cars with a bit more mileage in better condition. Mileage doesn't tel the whole story, I've seen cars at 50K that look trashed and mint examples of cars at 200K. I'd keep looking, and by that I mean go look at the cars in person to get a better idea of the condition and if a private sale, talking to the previous owner will reveal a lot about the car.

Ha ha! Ya- that's it! The guy over text has been rather rude as well. I had a chance to drive a Z3 1.9L but want more power!

This. If you've talked to/met the previous owner, trust your gut feelings. Look for clues that they were anal about taking care of the car.

    Private Seller?

That price is way too high. Type all the info into Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book. I'm pretty sure you'll get a private party value around $10k not $14k.

In general modifications don't really add value to the car. After market Stereo? No thanks, put the stock one back in please. Dash Cam? Okay that's nice, but I'm not paying for it, you can take it out if you want it back. Magnaflow Exhaust? lol. Interior vinyl wrap. Actually that is nice because the fake wood interior is awful. Front Fascia... I mean if you like it, but more often than not these sellers think they are adding value to an investment like remodeling a kitchen or some junk.

Auburn is not the most secure part of the state, that would explain any security upgrades.

I would agree that the aftermarket stereo looks like crap. Seller definitely overpaid on those wheels.
Not so much a signature as a cry for help.

Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.

    CAREFULL!!!
The subframe/differential on the Z3 is riveted to the floor of the trunk.
Pull the tool kit out and MAKE SURE the rivet's aren't loose or popped.
If it breaks loose while you're driving, it can destroy the car.
There's a subframe reinforcement kit for $500 and takes 15hrs to install. $$$$!!!

You act like in the Z3 section thats not the first thing we mention to a prospective buyer...

The subframe issue is wildly overplayed. I've owned 6 Z3M's, all driven hard, including now an S54... no subframe issues.

If the owner needed a new vert motor and top for the car with that low mileage, he must have did something terribly wrong with the original one or it sat outside enduring the weather for way too long.

I can appreciate that, however will this guy be as lucky as you were? And can one overplay an issue that could tear the back half of the car off?

Well... I paid $4500 for a 2007 3.0Si, auto, heated seats, 92k that needed ~$1100 worth of parts to set to my standards but I was in no hurry so waited for the 'best deal' to show up on cars.com notifications.image4-3.jpg
