    Belts tension question

    How important is it to use this tool [pic attached] when replacing belts/tensioners [e39 M62 non vanos]?

    ive never used that tool personally and have done the belts pulleys and tensioners a few times now on the m62

    That tool and many others are designed to do two things, show wear and tension on the belt. Your vehicle has an auto tension arm that unless you broke it or it has 100k on it should be fine.
    stay away from cheap belts go with BMW, conti, gates, or the Goodyear gator back only.
    replace the tensioner, idler, and belts at 100k plus as they performed their life expectancy
