Hello all,
I have a 99 bmw 740i 4.4L V8 that is currently experiencing a few odd issues. I have INPA and do have the issues it is stating for you guys. I will post them below but first I want to describe the issues.
ENGINE
When the engine is COLD, and only when the engine is cold, and I go to start it, it will idle fairly rough and then die, unless I give it gas. But then it still idles rough until the engine warms up a bit. Also, only when the engine is COLD does the secondary air pump kick on and it sounds horrible. I have a new one on the way. Finally, only when the engine is COLD do I hear a rattling noise when I give it gas, up until about 2000rpm then it goes away. When the engine warms up a bit this rattling is completely gone. Any ideas on any of these engine issues? I have no check engine light on. Only a SES light. INPA diag will be posted below.
TRANNY
I've noticed that the transmission hangs in gear for longer than it should. If I am cruising along at a lower speed (say around 30mph) and do not move the pedal, the rpm will occasionally dip a bit. I havent checked the transmission module for errors yet but will do so and post those issues below.
A side note, I'm not seeing any options in INPA to reset the Pedal Position Sensor adaptations. The entire first 1/4 of me pushing the pedal down gives the car literally no power. In my 750 its much more responsive as I have relearned the PPS. Here are the codes for the engine:
27 Adaption multipl. Area1 (Bank 2)
28 LR-Adaption additiv per Time
115 Hot film air mass meter --- I have replaced the MAF and still get this issue
124 Intake air temperature
26 LR-Adaption multipl. Area1
141 Output Engine Fan
140 Output Thermostat Map Cooling --- I have a new thermostat coming
80 Secondary air system
intake gaskets or maf
ses replaced the cel
Welp, I took off my throttle body and removed the gasket. The gasket as well as the the place where the throttle mounts at onto the intake manifold were caked heavily with what looked to be corrosion of some sort. There was also oil on the rear of the throttle body and plate. What would cause oil to get onto the throttle body??
The odd rattling is also still present when engine is COLD. But once it warms up it is gone. The secondary air pump is very loud upon starting the cold engine. I am doubtful as to if it is even bad or not. Tranny still acts slightly odd.
Would that brand new MAF be a proper OEM BMW one - or a Chinese copy?
