I can't remember which thread had the Carly info but this seems to be a different issue. I hope a guru can help.
I bought a 3 piece Carly 20 pin connector to Android device wiring set for my 1995 E38 (OBD1) and downloaded the Lite app. The Carly app tries to handshake with the car but doesn't 'connect'. I then tested the Carly OBD2 to-USB cable with my laptop (with generic OBD2 software) on a newer car with full OBD2 connectivity, no connection there either.
I suspect a bad cable but am I missing anything?
I also assume the OBD2 to USB cable is basically generic and should work with other hardware/software; is that correct?
I've pinged Carly and not gotten any useful help, just a generic response that assume a good handshake. Thanks Grady

Here's a link below to the recent Carly thread (it had moved over to page 3). Interesting that despite the comments in the thread as to the usefulness of the Carly app with an e38...let alone a 1995 model with OBD I...that you went ahead with the purchase. Good luck in getting it to do much of anything. AT least you'll be good-to-go when you move up to a new generation BMW that has iDrive (e90/e60/e65/e66/e70 and up).

Too bad. IIRC, here was a different thread that was more positive, hence why I bought it. And the Carly web site was positive. Might be returnable or I'll net it against my recent U-Pick-It finds.
But shouldn't the basic cable work with other cars and software or is it proprietary?
