Is my trunk supposed to *pop* open or just unlatch?

I'm piecing together threads and it looks like ... I dunno. I can't tell. Mine doesn't move, it just goes CHUNK and then I can open it. Can I improve on that at all?

    Thanks

When you press the "Trunk" button on a locked car, the trunk pops off the latch, so you can then lift it open.

IIRC, the E38 trunk will swing open when the button is pressed. Don't know if the mechanism can be fitted to an E39.

I remember when I pressed the button in our old LH Eagle Vision, the trunk would go flying, same in the Merc 126. Good stuff. But in my E32 and E39 it just lightly unlatches and you need to push it up before the struts take over.

The e38 trunk has the soft-close feature, not the full open mechanism. Both the e38 and e39 just open to the ajar position no matter which method you use to open the trunk (pushing the trunk button by the hood release latch, using the remote, or pushing the open handle on e39/button on e38 on the trunk). I mean visibly ajar/cracked open, not just unlatched.

E65/66 have the swing open feature. 4 out of the 5 e65/66 that I know have out of sync motors, so the trunk doesn't open all the way or the motor runs too long and keeps clicking away after the trunk is fully open.
