So the new Z3 is on it's way to my garage as we speak

I found a 2001 3.0 in Ft Myers with just over 18,000 miles on it and it's a gem. The car is a 2 owner and the person I bought it from was planning on putting in his little collection, but life changes made him decide to put it up for sale and I pounced on it. I caught a plane to Ft Myers today and started the drive north to NH with the 1st night stop being Walterboro SC.

The car was well maintained and recently serviced with all fluids replaced. The tires are original and will be replaced as soon as I get it home, and I can't find a scratch or chip anywhere on the body.

Now the 97 2.8 will have to leave the garage to make room for this gem...

    Stunning find. Congratulations.
If I lived in warmer climes, a car like that would accumulate 18,400 miles in less than two years.
The former owner showed excessive restraint!

    nice find , congrats !

i must admit being concerned about a long drive at highway speeds with 16 year old tires ! That can be dangerous and has nothing to do with how much tread is on them. i only drive a few thousand miles a year and made the mistake of leaving a set of Michelin PS2's on my car 8 years and the tires hardened over time and simply lost traction one day without warning--- resulting in a nasty spin ---- at a place and speed they had handled nicely in the past.

hopefully you are home safe and sound as you read this

Just got home a couple hours ago. Long 3 day drive. I didn't see the sun the whole trip and got to hear Civil Defense come on the radio telling of tornado warnings. Took a family photo as soon as I pulled into the driveway...

Great story and congrats. Which car gets to keep the plate?

The 2001 on the right gets the plates. The 97 with 88,000 miles will be sold.

The tires weren't in bad shape, but knowing the age, new shoes will be on the car next week and a couple other things will be updated before I start using the car on a regular basis. But, right now, I need a break after putting on 1500 miles in 3 days...
