Hi there
So iv been considering buying myself a X5 , I found a nice one decent milage for its age (2002/2003) and it's cheapish , but after asking the selling a few questions iv found out he has not long (few months ago) he had his gearbox reconditioned , now my question is is it worth buying knowing the gearbox is reconditioned? Will the gearbox be more likely to break again now?
Wouldn't it have been better to buy a whole new gearbox?
I have no experience with auto's and with BMW so all the advice you can give would be much appreciated
Thanks
Hello and welcome to the forum! If the reconditioned one was from an OEM supplier and installed properly; I wouldn't worry too much about it. A brand new system costs 2-3x as much, so likely done so for savings. The most important thing I would recommend if you're serious about purchasing is to get a full PPI (pre-purchase inspection) report done by an independent BMW mechanic. This will tell you exactly what state the car is in. Please let us know if you have any further questions and best of luck!

Who did the work, did they actually try to rebuild the trans or did a reman unit get installed and the most important question is does the work have a warranty
