    Japanese E34 Auto transmission problem

Hi, I'm new to the forums and new to E34s. Recently purchased a 1992 525i touring and discovered it has a massive transmission fluid leak. Had it diagnosed from a local mechanic to determine it was coming from the gear selector shaft seal. It has the Japanese A5s300j trans and tracking down someone selling the seal has been impossible. I found one company that appears to have one in the UK but I was not allowed to order from the U.S. for some reason. The part number is 24521219551 and I can't find anything that cross references. They did use these transmissions in E36s and E39s but that info hasn't really helped. Has anyone figured out a solution to replacing the seal?

    Thanks
    Keith

If it turns out you can only get it in the UK, give me a shout and I will order it/send it to you

I think this is it. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....012082&jsn=425
They are difficult to remove with the trans in situ, usually requiring a specific tool.
There was a thread(maybe not this forum) recently about shift shaft seals where it was postulated that a second seal could be fitted in the bore "on top" of the other. I believe this was done to change the position of the sealing lip riding a worn shaft.
I'm curious if simply driving another seal in over the old one would stop these leaks.

I have to do the same on my 4HP24 coming weekend, lot of ATF is dropping there. Done like this http://bmwe32.masscom.net/dutch740/s...ectorshaft.htm
BMW p/n for the 4hp22/24 oil seal and many other transmissions from ZF is 24147571213, and that costs meanwhile >$15/piece.
From experience I know that removing it is difficult and sometimes even the new one gets damaged when installing (due to limited space available), therefore I have some on stock, but instead of the original BMW I use Corteco 01033982B or CRP # 24527509500EC , they cost only a few $. Size for this is 10x18x5mm and I doubt, that a second seal would fit.
In case there are grooves on the shaft, better look for a oil seal with double lip seal.
