Key fob issue. Doing my head in now.

Right Gents. E46 Compact. 2002. Key was only unlocking/locking within 2m of the car. Bought a new battery, fitted it no problem. Now key will only unlock doors and tailgate. Locking not working. Ran DIS no faults found. Read key memory, which doesn't say a lot other than key is transmitting and OK. I have followed at least five different instruction guides. Key cycling in barrel, Hold unlock press lock three times etc but nothing happens. Have pulled fuses, nowt. Battery cycled nowt.

Any suggestions pleeeease.

Did you re-learn the key after changing battery?

That new battery probably just needs a good charge. Make sure you use that key in the ignition whenever you drive for the next few days or a week. See if it improves.

Thanks for the suggestions. It is what I have read and just hope it's true that a charge will make the remote lock. Seems weird to me. I will report back after a day out in the car tomorrow.

I drove the E46 today for over an hour getting to my work for the day. (The ride is appalling compared to my E39), Anyway the keyfob, although not fully charged is working perfectly. Very odd characteristic for the fobs to open everything but not lock. Anyway thanks
